Filming of the international TV production "The Little Lady" has begun at Grafenegg Castle in Lower Austria. Taking its inspiration from the famous classic "Little Lord Fauntleroy", the story focuses on nine-year-old Emily Ernest, a smart, vivacious child who has grown up on the streets of New York in the late 19th century. Emily suddenly emerges as the last remaining member of an Austrian aristocratic family. She is therefore transplanted to the Austrian castle where her grandmother, the Countess of Liebenfels, lives in solitary splendor, so she can be brought up as a little lady. But before long her natural, lively manner begins to play havoc with the rigid, conventional world of the Countess.

Alongside Christiane Hörbiger as the Countess, the production features Xaver Hutter as her lawyer and loyal adviser, Philippa Schöne as Emily, the Italian actress Christiane Filangieri as her mother, Stefania Rocca as the scheming legacy hunter and Veronica Ferres as the woman's rights activists from New York who refuses to abandon her little friend to fate. "Little Lord Fauntleroy” delighted generations of readers, and in "The Little Lady" our American- Irish team of authors has produced a refreshing new take on this classic story. The production benefits from some pretty concentrated female acting power; we're delighted to have secured the services of Christiane Hörbiger, Veronica Ferres and Stefania Rocca, guaranteeing that this will be the very best in family entertainment," comments producer Oliver Schündler.

Following the film version of the Henning Mankell novel "The Man from Beijing", this is the second international coproduction by Munich production firm Yellow Bird Pictures, in association with Lotus Film in Vienna. The producers of "The Little Lady" are Oliver Schündler, Boris Ausserer, Thomas Pridnig and Peter Wirthensohn. Top cameraman and director Gernot Roll is working from a script by Lavina Dawson, Tanya Fenmore and Chris Boyle. German broadcaster ZDF and the Austrian ORF are also behind the production, which has the support of the Austrian Film Fund, the Media Program of the European Union and the Bavarian Film Commission. Filming will continue in Grafenegg, Lower Austria and Vienna until 29th November 2011.
